Winter Hill Farm is a small, family-owned, diversified farm in Freeport, Maine. We have evolved from a small farmstead dairy to collaborative local creamery. We partner directly with Maine organic dairy farms to craft cheeses that bring our community together. Purchase of our products directly supports Maine dairy farms.

At Winter Hill Farm, we raise Berkshire pigs, grow flowers, make yogurt and a variety of cheeses, which begin with exceptional Maine milk and are shaped by the seasons, the land, and Sarah’s intuition.‍ ‍Check out our different offerings, and learn more.

The Farm

Nestled on 55 hilltop acres surrounded by woods and rolling pasture, Winter Hill Farm is a small, family run diversified farm in Freeport, Maine. We operate a small creamery producing yogurt and award-winning artisanal cheeses. On the farm we raise whey-fed, silvopastured Berkshire pork, graze heifers for our dairy partners and grow seasonal cut flowers for farmers' markets, local stores, a floral CSA and weddings.

Our mission is to provide our community with high quality, healthy products while maintaining the integrity of the natural environment.

This mission follows four basic concepts which guide all we do here on the farm.

Stewardship

We strongly believe that our land and animals should be treated with respect and that farming practices should mimic natural, ecological systems as much as possible.

Transparency

We strive for an open and honest dialog with our customers and community about the food that we produce and the practices we follow. We encourage our community members to visit the farm. We love to share what we do. We believe that consumer education and community dialogue are key to a healthier food system.

Community

We believe that community is the foundation of a good farming system. We grow food for our community, and in return our community supports us in our mission to provide this food while trusting us to keep the air, soil and water clean, and to handle our animals with care.

Quality of Our Craft

Good food speaks for itself. We believethat conservation of genetic and natural resources, coupled with good land stewardship and a strong commitment to animal welfare are all integral to creating the highest quality food.

Sustaining the land, the environment, our family and our community is the motivation for all that we do here at Winter Hill Farm. That, and we absolutely love good food!
